Cambridge Golf Club
Through initial memberships of the Cambridge Golf Club (CGC) in the 1990s by Cogswell founders Ron and Phil, a sponsorship arrangement to support the purchase of team uniforms for the Championship Pennant Teams began. In 2008, the First Division team carried the Cogswell logo on their uniforms to gain a historic win! Currently, the Company has focused its financial support of the Club through sponsorship of the Junior Development Program and the Club's recent Ecological Restoration Project to encourage wildlife and native vegetation regeneration through pest and weed control. If you visit the Club you will see the Cogswell signage proudly displayed.

Team - Round 3 2025
Round 3 of the 2025 Pro-Drive Junior Pennants was played on 10th August 2025 at Huntly Golf Club, after Cambridge’s scheduled home advantage was taken away due to the course being required by Waikato Golf for another event. Despite the venue change, the team fronted up with great attitude and determination to give themselves every chance of pushing into the top four.In the lead-up to the final round, Waikato Golf also requested the return of the Junior Pennants Shield, which had been proudly displayed at Cambridge Golf Club for the past two seasons — a reminder of the high standard the team has set in recent years.
Cambridge’s counting scores in Round 3 were:
- Lachlan Dennis-Wolf – 37 points
- Matthew Prinsloo – 33 points
- Harvey Thomas – 29 points
- Team Total: 89 points
This result saw Cambridge finish mid-table overall for the season. While the boys missed out on a finals appearance, they competed with great pride, resilience, and sportsmanship across all three rounds, Something that was acknowledge by Waikato Golf across all teams.
Tieke White finished as the most consistent team across the series, sharing top honours with Hukanui after Hukanui stormed home in the final round with a powerful 116-point team total. Matamata secured their third Grand Final appearance in as many years, while the final spot was only decided by countback between Tieke Red and Huntly, with Huntly edging through by just two points, showing that home advantage does help.
Cambridge Season Summary
While Cambridge did not progress to the finals this year, the season was a hugely positive one for the Club. With a completely different team to the previous two years, players were given their opportunity at this level, gaining invaluable experience that will serve them well in future seasons.
The 2025 campaign also presented challenges with player availability at times, due in part to several of our stronger golfers balancing other sporting commitments. This meant the team competed with reduced numbers; however, the boys adapted superbly, showing outstanding commitment, resilience, and team spirit throughout the season.

Cogswell Junior Pennant Team - 2024 Finals
On Sunday 25th August 2024 our Cambridge Golf Junior team of Matthew Prinsloo, Max Harrison, Riley Bennett, Tony Kim and Lachie Dennis-Wolf competed against 3 other Waikato teams in the grand final of the Waikato Golf Junior Pennant Champs. The venue for the showdown was the picturesque Hukanui golf course.
After a false start the previous week (grand final was scheduled for the previous Sunday, but was called off due to the wild weather), all the teams were primed and ready for the battle. Matamata qualified at #1 for the finals, with Cambridge qualifying in second, with Te Awamutu and Huntly rounding out the last 2 spots.
The final was played in pleasant conditions and all the junior golfers across the 4 teams played well, showcasing great skills, team spirit and golfing etiquette.
After all was said and done, and the counting was complete (stablefords), then we were left with a clear winner on 125 points (3 best scores out of 5), 2nd was on 100, 3rd on 93 and 4th on 91.
And it is my pleasure and with great pride to announce that the clear winner was the Cambridge team!
The result highlighted the team nature of the comp, everyone contributed well across all 4 rounds and on finals day we had 3 of the more junior players of the team play out of their collective skins. They realised their full potential (that had been brewing) and then some more.
Max Harrison shot 81 for 46 points (picked a great day to shoot his first sub-90 score), Lachie Dennis-Wolf also went under 90 for the first time, shooting 88 and collecting 40 points for the team and Tony Kim rounded out our top 3 score with 87 and 39 points. Matthew and Riley also scored well, but hard to beat those points (especially playing off 0.5 and 7.7 handicaps respectively), but they did great work in qualifying rounds that got us to the final.
A great achievement for Cambridge junior golf, having never won the tournament in the 25 years it had been running, we have now won it twice in a row.

Also thanks to Stephen, Terry and the rest of the team at Waikato Golf, well organised event again this year, and big thanks to Pro Drive Golf for their sponsorship of the event as well. And a huge thanks for Rory, lots of time spent with our young golfers making sure their golf skills were always improving, and more importantly, making them good golfing citizens.
Irrespective of the result, I personally found the whole competition very enjoyable, a superb group of young golfers across both Cambridge teams. We've got plenty in the junior golf stocks to make it 3 in a row next year!

The first victory ever in the Waikato Junior Championships.
